Medal set (Mons star) for J.H.Warren 40199 RGA/RA Later SJT 1409384.

James Henry Warren enlisted in Southampton on January 5, 1914 but was born in St. Helier, Jersey. Age given as 18 years 248 days,

Term of engagement was 8 years with colours and 4 years in reserve. Previously a Butcher's Assistant.

He was wounded by a gas attack on April 7, 1918,

Final discharge January 4, 1935 (so extended service to 21 years),

He was awarded the 1914 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

The 1914 Star medal rolls shows that he dis-embarked on the 4th October 1914 (theatre of war France and Flanders),

The BWM and VM medal rolls shows that he was serving with the 111th Heavy Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery,

The Long, Long Trail shows the 111th HB in France from the 5th October 1914,

He had previously been wounded mid Aug 1917, reported in the Daily Casualty List published 22/9/17.

His Long service and good conduct medal has a post war number which indicates he served post war,

His service records will be held by the M.O.D,

James  was the son of James Warren a mariner (seaman) and Alice Amelia Warren nee Lockyear,

James can be found aged 13 on the  1911 census residing with his mother at 5 Sidford Terrace Southampton his father I assume at sea,

His baptism records give his date of birth as May 16th 1897.
